In January this year it decided to support biodiesel production and distribution by allowing biodiesel manufacturers to sell to customers directly, without distributing through the three national oil marketing companies (OMCs). – Prime Minister Modi and the Indian Government are actively promoting biodiesel as an alternative to petroleum diesel to reduce more than US$120 billion per year of crude oil imports. The elimination of the fuel subsidy and the termination of the requirement to sell biodiesel through government fuel marketers opens up a very large market in India. Existing commercial scale biodiesel producers in India have a combined capacity of only about 250 million gallons (≈ 950 000 m3) per year, said Eric McAfee, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Aemetis.
