Operating under the name Cranab Fassi do Brasil, the new company is a venture together with Italian truck manufacturer Fassi Gru. Brazil, the world’s fifth largest nation by area, has a burgeoning forestry output. Climate, temperature and precipitation are all beneficial factors for the growth of the nation’s commercial forestry. Cranab Group consists of four brands: crane and grapple manufacturers Cranab; grass- and brushcutter flails Slagkraft; small forestry machinery Vimek; and ground preparation, planting and biomass harvesting equipment Bracke Forest. The investment in Brazil is part of the group’s increasing The Finnish agricultural and forest machinery manufacturer Sampo has long been focused on harvesting — first, combine harvesters for agriculture, then forest harvesters. Now the time has come for its first forwarder. The new FR28 has a 10 tonne load capacity, slightly lighter than others in its class, and is designed for use in first and second thinnings. It matches the Sampo HR46 harvester, currently the only Sampo harvester on offer. The company has purposely invested in equipment for first and second thinnings due to the emerging age structure in Finnish and Swedish forests with a growing acreage in need of thinning. The market-ready edition will be officially launched at the SkogsElmia forestry tradeshow in Sweden in June. BI79/4856/AS A new stump grinder for skid steers has been launched by US forestry equipment manufacturers Fecon, Inc. A threaded cone and staggered AR500 cutting blades grind out stump and root material with minimal discharge without requiring any fast-wearing carbide cutting tools. Unlike conventional stump grinders the chips from the Stumpex stay mostly in the hole, making post-grinding clean-up faster and easier. In addition, low maintenance costs, high production and increased safety make it a viable equipment option for stump grinding contractors in land clearing, tree care, and municipal applications.
