BUSINESS GUIDE Bioenergy International No 80, 4-2015 31 Bioenergy International No 80, 4-2015 31 European palm oil industry targets 100% A new drive to address palm oil’s global sustainability challenges emerged at Roundtable Sustainable Palm Oils’s (RSPO) 3rd European Roundtable recently held in Amsterdam, Netherlands, gathering around 280 industries, NGOs and stakeholders from palm oil producing and importing countries. While all parties agreed that RSPO certified sustainable palm oil (CSPO) is part of the answer and acknowledged the work done by RSPO so far, they did not see any room for complacency and stressed the importance of change. The organisation has adopted a set of ambitious regional objectives for market uptake: to reach 100% CSPO in Europe by 2020, 50% in Indonesia and Malaysia, 30% in India and 10% in China. The conference highlighted a number of challenges that RSPO will need to address in order to implement its market transformation vision in Europe and globally. BI80/4925/AS Preem to launch gasoline from tall oil Swedish oil refiner and retailer- Preem is to launch a gasoline, Preem Evolution Bensin, with a 10 percent renewable content derived from a pulp industry residue, tall oil. In 2011 it launched Preem Evolution Diesel also made from tall oil and Sweden became the first in the world with a standard diesel made from forest industry residue. Now Sweden first in the world with a gasoline partly based on tall oil. To be rolled out at Preem filling stations by the end of June it is the greenest standard gasoline on the Swedish market as it contains 10 percent renewable share, compared 5 percent. According to Preem it can be used in all gasoline vehicles. - It’s a first step. We have much higher ambitions for both our diesel and gasoline, but to move forward we need long-term rules of our politicians, said Petter Holland, President and CEO of Preem in a statement.
